During Lockdown I stumbled across an old tip, in the grounds of Whitehill House which was once used as a care home for adults with additional support needs. The tip is on a steep slope and a clutter of all sorts of detritus. I love rummaging and spotted some interesting bits and pieces - amongst them large and small fragments of broken records.
The fragments were caked in mud , so I gathered them up , took them home and washed them.
With live music and all manner of gatherings on hold, as a result of the pandemic , these fragments seemed very relevant in their disused state - suggesting happier times , when people had perhaps danced and sung along along to their favourite tunes.
When I was washing them , my fingers sensed the grooves that held the music , then the printmaker in me thought "those grooves might hold ink too". I have a makeshift etching press in my bedroom/studio ( a converted table top clothes mangle )
and so a journey started.
